IslandWorks Porsche 964 Motorsport Engine Harness
The IslandWorks Porsche 964 Engine Harness is a purpose-built wiring solution for modern engine management, coil-on-plug ignition and high-performance air-cooled Porsche builds.
Designed and manufactured by IslandWorks, the harness replaces the complexity of an adapted factory loom with a clean, modular system built around motorsport-grade materials and serviceability.
All major engine sensors, actuators and ignition components are integrated into one dedicated engine harness, terminating at a single motorsport-style circular connector at the rear bulkhead. This creates a clear separation between the engine and cabin wiring, making engine removal, installation, troubleshooting and future upgrades significantly easier.
Rather than modifying decades-old wiring to suit a modern ECU, the IslandWorks harness provides a new electrical foundation designed specifically around the requirements of a modern air-cooled Porsche engine.
Motorsport-Grade Construction
The engine-side harness is manufactured using MIL-spec Tefzel wire throughout and protected with Raychem DR-25 heat-shrink sleeving.
DR-25 is used throughout the engine compartment where resistance to heat, fluids, abrasion and vibration is critical, making the harness equally suited to demanding road cars, restomods and competition applications.
Connections are professionally routed and consolidated to produce a harness that is not only reliable, but also considerably cleaner than traditional conversion wiring.
Single-Connector Engine Interface
One of the key features of the IslandWorks system is the use of a single circular bulkhead connector between the engine and the vehicle.
The engine harness incorporates the difficult-to-access sensors and engine interfaces into one removable assembly.
This makes it possible to disconnect the engine electrically at one central point rather than individually separating wiring throughout the engine bay.
The result is:
-
Faster engine removal and installation
-
Easier troubleshooting
-
Improved serviceability
-
Cleaner wiring architecture
-
Simplified ECU integration
-
Easier future upgrades
Engine Harness Connections
Depending on engine specification, the harness supports connections including:
-
6 × fuel injectors
-
12 × coil-on-plug ignition connections
-
2 × knock sensors
-
Camshaft position sensor
-
Crankshaft position sensor
-
Cylinder head temperature sensor
-
Fuel pressure sensor
-
Electronic throttle body
-
Resonance valve solenoid
-
Intake air temperature and pressure sensor
-
Oil temperature and pressure sensor
-
CAN bus expansion connection (Lambda interface, including solutions such as MoTeC LTCD)
-
Reverse-light switch
-
Generator/start signal
-
Starter motor signal
-
T30 permanent power connection
The system is designed to support the type of modern engine management architecture used on fully developed air-cooled Porsche engines, including sequential injection and coil-on-plug ignition.
Optional MoTeC M130 Cabin Harness
For installations using a MoTeC M130 ECU, IslandWorks can also supply an optional matching cabin-side harness.
The cabin harness connects directly between the engine harness bulkhead connector, the M130 ECU and the necessary vehicle-side power and chassis connections, creating a complete plug-in electrical interface between engine, ECU and car.
Both the engine and cabin harnesses use MIL-spec Tefzel wiring.
Because the cabin environment is considerably less demanding than the engine compartment, the cabin-side harness uses Roundit protective sleeving rather than DR-25. This provides a lighter and more flexible solution while maintaining excellent mechanical protection and a professional motorsport-style installation.
The optional cabin-side harness is currently available specifically for the MoTeC M130.
Designed Around the Complete Engine Conversion
The harness has been developed as part of the IslandWorks approach to modernizing the Porsche air-cooled drivetrain as a complete system rather than as a collection of individual parts.
Combined with coil-on-plug ignition, cam and crank synchronization and modern engine management, it provides the electrical infrastructure required to take full advantage of precise ignition, sequential fuel injection, advanced sensor monitoring and modern ECU strategies.
For coil-on-plug conversions, the factory rear electrical box can also be eliminated with the appropriate installation work, allowing an even cleaner and more simplified engine bay.
